Safeguarding is a fundamental part of every school’s work, and leaders need to be able to show that their culture, systems and practice keep pupils safe and supported.
In this focused one‑hour session, part of our Unpacking the School Inspection Toolkit series, we will explore what Ofsted looks for within the Safeguarding evaluation area and how leaders can evidence a strong, proactive and well‑embedded safeguarding culture.
You’ll gain clarity on how inspectors evaluate safeguarding culture, staff knowledge, operational systems, safer recruitment and the school’s response to child‑on‑child abuse, ensuring leaders can confidently articulate both practice and impact.
What we’ll cover:
- How leaders establish and sustain an open, positive and effective safeguarding culture that protects every pupil and builds confidence among staff, pupils and parents.
- How safeguarding is strategically and operationally managed to protect all pupils, including those at greater risk.
- How leaders ensure safer recruitment practices are followed, recorded and consistently applied for all adults working with pupils.
- How leaders prevent, identify and respond to child‑on‑child violence, sexual harassment and abuse, ensuring pupils feel safe and supported.
- Practical ways to use the information to refine and update the safeguarding section of your SEF.
- Opportunities to ask questions and deepen your understanding of the toolkit and the inspection process.
