Welcome to our training module on retrieval practice.

This training module is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants and SENCOs and should take approximately 50-60 minutes to complete, depending upon how much time you allocate for the discussion activities.

You might want to have a sequence of lessons close to hand so you can use them for one of the activities (to identify areas where retrieval strategies could be incorporated).

In this training module we explain how metacognitive strategies can be embedded into your classroom practice. We share examples for reading, writing, maths, and science as well as strategies you can use in any curriculum subject.

This training module is suitable for all teaching staff in school and is likely to take 50 – 60 minutes to complete, depending upon the time you allocate to carry out the activities and discussions.

We recommend that you download the reflection sheet so you can record your thoughts and ideas about using metacognition in the classroom.
