Welcome to our training module, Best Start in Life series: Part 1 – Setting the Scene

In this training module, we share Ofsted’s research into best Early Years practice. This research review explores literature that relates to early years education. It focuses on the pre-school age range, from birth to 4 years. ‘Setting the Scene’ examines the factors that contribute to a high-quality early education such as practitioners choosing activities and experiences after they have determined the curriculum. In the video, we explore what makes an effective early years curriculum such as practitioners choosing activities and experiences after they have determined the curriculum. We explain the relevance of prior knowledge and starting points and the importance and purpose of play.

This training module is suitable for anyone working in early years, or for subject and senior leaders, because it focuses on what makes a high quality education. It is likely to take 35 – 40 minutes to complete. Please download the reflection sheet so you can record your thoughts as you watch the video.
